Add a game to your account

Published: April 19, 2025Updated: April 3, 2025

PlayVessel has many features for managing your gaming collection, but you can't use them without first adding a game to your account.

How it works

Unlike more traditional game trackers that use separate lists (e.g., "Playing", "Completed"), PlayVessel takes a different approach:

  • Games are added to your account, not to a specific list
  • You can then assign statuses (like "Playing" or "Completed") to organize your games.
  • This allows for greater flexibility in sorting and filtering.

Adding a game to your account

  1. Search for the game - Use the search bar to find the game you want to track
  2. Go to the Game's detail page - Click on the game to view its details.
  3. Click "Add to Account" - assuming you are logged in you will see a button to save the game to your collection
  4. Edit game information - After clicking on the button you will be prompted to edit that game's details before adding it to your account. Don't be overwhelmed, everything is set to a default where necessary so you can click add without changing anything!

By default games are added with the "unplayed" status and the "not completed" completed status

This effectively adds the game to your backlog, saying you have not touched it before. If you were to change the status to "playing", "not completed" this displays the game under a "playing" list. Once you complete the story of the game you could mark it as "played" and "beaten".

Changing the statuses around is how we determine what "list" to put the game in. This allows for greater flexibility as opposed to putting games in traditional lists, as the games themselves are no longer stored as apart of said list but rather your account. Meaning any additional information such as how many playthroughs you have, any notes, or achievements unlocked in that game, is tied to your account, rather than for example your account's "playing" list.

It's a complex system, but it's incredibly flexible. Rather than "adding a game to a list"- you're adding it to your account and tagging it accordingly. This allows for additional fields to be added in the future with greater ease.

Play around with it, there's no pressure to add every single game you have ever thought of or played. Just add the games you're currently playing, or want to play and your list will start to take shape and hopefully cool insights come out of it.
